ZetaChain proposes Solana migration, L1 halt on December 9

ZetaChain has proposed shutting down its Layer 1 blockchain on December 9 and moving its native ZETA token to Solana, alongside plans to launch a private artificial intelligence platform called ZetaLabs.

Summary
  • ZetaChain has opened a 72-hour governance vote on moving ZETA to Solana, with voting closing November 7, 2026.
  • If approved, the ZetaChain Layer 1 will halt around December 9, with native ZETA converted into Solana tokens at a 1:1 ratio.
  • The proposal provides for burning approximately 55 million ZETA in undistributed validator rewards during 2027.
  • Holders with fewer than 10 ZETA cannot use the individual claim portal, while exchange-held balances will follow exchange conversion arrangements.
  • ZetaChain plans to launch ZetaLabs, its private AI application, on December 9 alongside the proposed migration.

The project announced on November 4 that Governance Proposal 2 would determine the migration arrangements, including token conversion, holder protections and the network’s shutdown. Voting closes November 7 at 16:12 UTC, and the proposed changes cannot proceed unless token holders approve them.

“Nothing moves until it passes,” the ZetaChain team said.

The proposal follows a September governance decision in which 99.4% of participating votes supported moving ZETA to Solana. That earlier vote approved the direction of the migration but left implementation details for a second proposal.

ZetaChain sets December 9 for proposed Solana migration

Under Proposal 2, ZetaChain would record existing token balances at block 20,755,000, expected around December 9. The snapshot would include liquid holdings, staked tokens, unbonding balances and unclaimed staking rewards.

The existing blockchain would permanently stop producing blocks at the snapshot height, with Solana becoming the network hosting native ZETA.

On Dec 9, $ZETA becomes a native Solana token and ZetaLabs launches: private AI on Solana, with ZETA as the token behind it.

The ZetaChain Foundation plans to mint an equivalent amount of ZETA on Solana using the SPL token standard. The conversion would preserve the ticker and maintain a 1:1 exchange ratio without introducing additional tokens into the existing supply.

After the snapshot supply has been minted, the foundation would revoke its minting authority. The new token would have nine decimal places and no freeze authority.

The proposal specifies that ZETA already issued on Ethereum as an ERC-20 token would remain unaffected.

As crypto.news reported during September’s vote, the project had previously explained that operating a separate blockchain required continued validator coordination, software maintenance and security work.

ZetaChain now plans to concentrate its development on private AI applications using Solana’s existing network infrastructure.

ZETA holders face different migration requirements

The proposed migration would allow eligible token holders to claim their Solana-based ZETA through the ZetaHub portal beginning December 9.

Users would connect the wallet holding their existing ZETA, sign a message identifying their receiving Solana wallet and receive the corresponding balance without paying a transaction fee.

However, the governance proposal establishes a minimum balance of 10 ZETA for individual claims. Addresses holding fewer than 10 tokens at the snapshot would not qualify for that process.

Exchange-held balances would follow conversion arrangements established by the respective trading platforms, which must announce their own schedules.

Users with staked or unbonding tokens would not need to withdraw their holdings before the snapshot, as those balances and accumulated rewards would be recorded automatically.

The situation differs for ZETA held in liquidity pools or wrapped-token contracts. The team has instructed holders to exit those positions before the snapshot because individual wallet claims cannot recover tokens held by contracts.

Meanwhile, assets held on ZetaChain as ZRC-20 tokens would become eligible for claims on their original networks, subject to a minimum value of $5 per token.

Security firm Hacken is reviewing the migration portal and its supporting program. ZetaChain said the portal would open only after the review is complete and its findings are published.

The team has warned holders to use official websites and never disclose their recovery phrases during the process.

CN reached out to ZetaChain for comment on the proposed Layer 1 shutdown and measures to protect token holders during migration but had not received a response by publication time.

ZetaChain plans 55 million ZETA burn during 2027

The migration proposal includes a reduction in token supply following the retirement of ZetaChain’s validator network.

Approximately 55 million ZETA previously allocated to undistributed validator rewards would be burned through 12 monthly transactions during 2027.

Each transaction would remove roughly 4.6 million ZETA, with the final amount determined by how many rewards have already been distributed when the blockchain stops.

The project’s maximum token supply would decrease by the amount burned, while future validator inflation associated with the existing Layer 1 would end.

Purchaser and core contributor vesting is scheduled to finish on January 1, 2027. The foundation has separately committed not to sell newly released tokens from specified foundation-controlled allocations during 2027.

Earlier ZETA token unlock schedules included a release of approximately 44.43 million tokens in August 2026, before holders approved the proposed migration direction.

ZetaLabs to introduce private AI services on Solana

Alongside the token migration, ZetaChain plans to launch ZetaLabs on December 9.

The application builds on Anuma Chat, which the company says has operated since February 2026. ZetaLabs would combine multiple AI models with live financial market data and encrypted user memory.

Its initial features include Chat for market research, Radar for tracking market activity, Bloom for encrypted transaction history and a dashboard showing token supply and burns.

Users would be able to pay using ZETA, USDC or payment cards. Locking ZETA would provide access to premium features scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The roadmap includes additional research tools, transaction explanations and connections allowing third-party applications to access user-authorized information.

The governance proposal commits ZetaChain to maintaining an archive node until at least October 31, 2027, allowing users to access historical records after the planned shutdown.

If the November 7 vote fails, the September decision supporting migration would remain in place, but the team would need to submit a revised proposal before proceeding.
