Samsung Wallet to introduce USDC transfers across 82 million US Galaxy devices

Samsung Electronics has announced plans to introduce USDC stablecoin transfers through Samsung Wallet in late October, allowing eligible Galaxy users in the United States to send money to crypto wallets and bank accounts overseas.

Summary
  • Samsung Wallet will introduce USDC transfers in late October, with the service available across 82 million US Galaxy devices.
  • Eligible users will be able to send USDC to compatible crypto wallets without Samsung transfer fees and to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries.
  • Coinbase Prime will custody the USDC through Bastion, while Solana and Sui will provide blockchain infrastructure support.
  • Samsung is considering future stablecoin payments at online and physical stores, with international expansion subject to local regulations.

According to the company’s Oct. 7 announcement, the service will become available during the last week of October across 82 million U.S. Galaxy devices, with support for international bank transfers to more than 60 countries.

Eligible users will be able to send USDC to compatible crypto wallets without paying a transfer fee to Samsung. Bank account recipients can receive funds in their local currency without needing to hold cryptocurrency or install a wallet.

Samsung is working with Bastion and Coinbase to operate the service, while Solana and Sui are among the blockchain infrastructure partners supporting the rollout.

Samsung Wallet will support USDC transfers to over 60 countries

Under the new service, eligible Galaxy owners can access stablecoin transfers directly through Samsung Wallet without installing a separate cryptocurrency application.

Samsung said the integration removes the need for users to manage private keys themselves. USDC will be the first supported stablecoin and will appear as the default dollar stablecoin when users select the Buy Stablecoin option.

For transfers to compatible crypto wallets, the company expects transactions to be completed in seconds without charging users transfer fees. Recipient wallets and exchanges may impose separate charges, while processing times can depend on network conditions.

International transfers to eligible bank accounts will follow a different process. Recipients in more than 60 supported countries can receive local currency directly into their accounts, although applicable fees may vary by destination.

The service will include fiat on-ramps and off-ramps, allowing eligible users to move between conventional money and USDC through the supported payment infrastructure.

“Sending money abroad should feel as convenient as using the wallet already on your phone,” said Woncheol Chai, executive vice president and head of Samsung’s Digital Wallet Team.

Chai said the company wanted Galaxy users to access USDC transfers without installing another application or handling private keys.

Samsung has not published a complete list of supported destination countries or detailed fees for the bank transfer service in the supplied announcement.

Coinbase Prime and Bastion will handle USDC custody

For the custody arrangement, Samsung has selected Bastion to provide the cross-border payment framework, with Coinbase serving as its official sub-custodian.

Bastion is a licensed stablecoin infrastructure and custody provider overseen by U.S. financial regulators. USDC held through the new Samsung Wallet service will be safeguarded using Coinbase Prime Vault.

Transactions will require biometric authentication on registered Galaxy devices, adding a security check before users can initiate transfers.

Samsung Next was previously among the investors in Bastion. In September 2025, Coinbase Ventures led a $14.6 million funding round that included Samsung Next, Sony Innovation Fund, a16z crypto and Hashed. The investment brought Bastion’s total funding to more than $40 million.

Alongside the custody arrangements, Samsung has named Solana and Sui among the technical partners supporting blockchain infrastructure for the service.

Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, described the Samsung integration as a step toward making stablecoins available for everyday money transfers.

“This level of adoption is what we built Solana for,” Liu said, adding that stablecoins were becoming a way for people to move money beyond traditional cryptocurrency applications.

Coinbase’s head of infrastructure products, Alec Lovett, described Samsung’s global reach as a significant distribution milestone for USDC.

Samsung and Coinbase expand their existing partnership

Samsung’s latest announcement follows an earlier partnership with Coinbase that brought cryptocurrency services into the Galaxy ecosystem.

In October 2025, crypto.news reported that Samsung Wallet had integrated Coinbase services for approximately 75 million U.S. Galaxy users.

Eligible customers gained access to cryptocurrency trading and staking through Samsung Wallet, along with promotional Coinbase One subscription benefits.

Samsung Pay had previously become a payment option within the Coinbase application, allowing eligible users to fund their exchange accounts through the mobile payment service.

Plans for native stablecoin support were subsequently announced during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2026, although the company had not identified its supported stablecoins, launch schedule or infrastructure partners at the time.

Samsung has pursued separate developments involving cryptocurrency wallet technology.

On Oct. 6, the company was reported to have filed a U.S. patent application describing a digital asset wallet system that uses smart contracts to authorize transactions without requiring individual devices to directly handle private keys.

The proposed technology would allow smartphones, computers, wearables and home appliances to participate in managing a shared digital asset wallet. Samsung has not confirmed whether the patented system will be incorporated into any commercial product.

Samsung plans stablecoin payments and international expansion

Beyond transfers, Samsung is considering support for stablecoin payments at online merchants and physical stores.

Under the proposed functionality, eligible Galaxy users could eventually make purchases by tapping their devices at participating retail locations.

The company has not provided a launch date for these payment features, which remain under consideration.

Future geographic expansion will depend on regulatory requirements in individual markets, with the initial stablecoin service limited to eligible U.S. Galaxy users.

Samsung said the October rollout follows the establishment of a U.S. regulatory framework for stablecoins. The company has not announced plans to introduce its own stablecoin through Samsung Wallet.

USDC will remain the initial supported asset, while further details about eligible devices, supported destinations and additional service capabilities are expected to be provided as the launch approaches.
