Zcash developers begin moving Tachyon code into faster private-payment software
Udon brings some of the calculations needed for Tachyon’s proposed scaling upgrade into Common, where developers can build on code they have already made faster. Udon has been released as software; the upgrade has not been activated on Zcash.

Bowe and Ojha have set a long-term target of more than 50,000 payments a second. At that rate, they estimate today’s cryptography would make each Zcash node take in more than 500 megabytes of data every second.
Tachyon is intended to combine proofs from many payments so the nodes have far less to receive and check. Zcash computers would have less to check if many payments could share one proof. Creating that proof takes more memory, so Bowe’s team is building it with code they have already made faster in Common.
As such, Zcash is a long way from that volume as of Tuesday. ZecStats data show the network averaged about 11,700 transactions involving shielded funds a day in the seven days through Sept. 21, or roughly one every seven seconds. That average fell to about 6,200 a day in the seven days through Sept. 28.
