Willy Woo’s 5-Year Debt Reset Warning: Can Bitcoin and Gold Protect You?
On-chain analyst Willy Woo says the world could face a historic debt reset within five years. He believes Bitcoin and gold could serve as escape hatches.
His warning echoes Ray Dalio’s long-running thesis, and some analysts now see dramatic upside for hard assets.
Why Willy Woo Expects a Debt Reset Within Five Years
A debt cycle reset is a period when unpayable debts force a rewrite of the financial system.
It typically happens every 50-80 years.
During these resets, currencies often lose value, and governments restructure who owes what. Dalio has warned about this moment for years. Now, Woo has set a clear timeline.
“Every 50-80 years or so the accounting is reset, and it all starts again… Next 5 years is the reset (Dalio),” he wrote on X. He added that gold and Bitcoin serve as an “escape hatch” until governments tamper with the fiat ledger.
According to Dalio, the classic pattern is already underway.
The US holds roughly $32 trillion in marketable Treasury debt. Moreover, net new issuance could reach $2.1 trillion this year.
At the same time, foreign buyers are pulling back. Interest costs are rising fast and crowding out other spending. As a result, debt supply now overwhelms demand.
Could Bitcoin and Gold Be the Big Winners of the Reset?
Historically, governments facing this pressure choose money printing over painful restructuring. That path often ends in a monetary reset, which tends to favor assets outside the fiat debt system.
Gold has played that role for centuries. Meanwhile, supporters view Bitcoin as its digital and portable version.
Macro analyst Luke Gromen takes the gold thesis further.
He outlined a scenario in which gold could climb as high as $18,000. That would require a full dollar crisis and a need for a neutral reserve asset.
He argues that printing money to cover interest would crush confidence in Treasuries.
However, Bitcoin now sits at a critical technical level. CryptoQuant data show the price testing the Trader Realized Price. That metric tracks the average cost basis of coins moved in the past one to three months.
Historically, this zone often acts as support or resistance.
Therefore, Bitcoin’s reaction could reveal whether recent buyers are holding firm or starting to capitulate.
“…If BTC successfully holds around the Trader Realized Price and begins to move away from it again, it would suggest that the average cost basis of recent participants is still functioning as support. If price breaks below it and fails to reclaim the level, the interpretation changes…,” crypto analyst Trdaer_Gemini noted.
Still, analysts say the cycle remains in its mid-phase. Rates have risen, but the full damage has not yet reached stocks or the real economy.
