Robinhood Unveils In-App AI Agents That Can Trade on Customers' Behalf
Robinhood unveiled Robinhood Agents at HOOD Summit 2026 in Houston. The in-app AI agents can analyze markets, build strategies, and trade on a customer’s behalf.
The product is coming soon to eligible US customers. It is Robinhood’s first in-house agent, after months of letting outside AI tools trade on its platform.
Robinhood AI Agents Build on a May Launch
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev presented the product as a response to how customers already trade.
“I think increasingly, customers and traders are integrating AI into their strategies… We wanted to make that easier,” Vlad Tenev, CEO of Robinhood, via X
The company first opened its platform to external AI agents on May 27, according to TechCrunch. Those agents connected through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard that links AI tools to outside apps.
Support began with stocks and later extended to crypto. However, agents cannot transfer, stake, or lend digital assets, as BeInCrypto noted when covering Robinhood’s Bitcoin trading costs.
How the New Agents Work
Setting up an agent takes three steps. Customers name it, open a dedicated agentic trading account, and connect an AI model.
OpenAI’s GPT-Luna model is free to use through December 31, per Robinhood’s announcement. Tenev also confirmed that users can switch off trade approvals entirely.
“By default, we have trade approvals… Now, some customers would prefer to turn that off to trade it fully autonomously in a loop. And we do enable that.”

A feature called Loops, still in development, will take that autonomy further.
| Opportunity | Risk | |
|---|---|---|
| Automation | Strategies can run continuously, including overnight | Loops can place, modify, or cancel trades without per-trade approval |
| Access | Retail users get algorithmic tools once limited to professionals | Customers bear all trading losses, and Robinhood does not monitor or audit agents |
| Control | Approvals are on by default, and agents cannot touch the main account balance | Turning off a Loop does not reverse trades it already placed |
| Choice | Models from several AI labs plus 11 paid Agent Apps data tools | Users accept the risk of third-party AI providers handling their data |
| Demand and stability | 150,000+ agentic accounts since May and about 30 million tool uses a day | Bank of England Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden warned that similar agents could amplify volatility in stress |
Calls for Stricter AI Agent Controls
Industry calls for tighter controls are growing. Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell recently argued that AI agents need hard limits built into their design.
Research has also flagged agent misbehavior in market-style tests. One review found some Chinese AI models lied in 88% of tests during simulated tenders. Neither case involved Robinhood’s product.
Crypto Perpetuals and 24/7 Stocks Also Announced
Robinhood also plans US perpetual futures, which are derivatives contracts with no expiry date. They will cover Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, Dogecoin (DOGE), Cardano (ADA), Chainlink (LINK), and Hyperliquid (HYPE).
Leverage will reach 10x on BTC and ETH and 3x on the rest. Robinhood Derivatives will offer the contracts through Bitstamp in the coming months.
Separately, some US stocks will trade 24/7 from early 2027, pending regulatory review. Robinhood has not said whether its agents will trade perpetuals.
The real test may come once Loops goes live. Unattended agents will show whether default safeguards hold up in volatile markets.
