Ripple partners with Stripe’s Privy to bring XRP payments to apps

Ripple partners with Stripe’s Privy to bring XRP payments to apps - 1

Ripple has partnered with Stripe-owned Privy to bring XRP and RLUSD wallet tools into apps on the XRP Ledger, where Ripple says AI agents have already made 13 million payments.

Summary
  • Privy will let developers create XRPL wallets, manage them through software, and sign transactions.
  • Embedded wallets will support stablecoin payments without requiring consumers to manage their own keys.
  • Ripple says agent payments now account for roughly 25% of activity on the XRP Ledger.
  • The integration will support XRP, RLUSD and other digital assets issued on the network.

Privy announced that it is bringing its programmable wallet infrastructure to the XRP Ledger through a partnership with Ripple, giving developers tools to build payment services inside their applications. According to the wallet provider, the integration will support both consumer-facing financial products and applications that let AI agents make payments.

Privy will bring XRP Ledger wallets directly into apps

For businesses building on XRPL, Privy said its infrastructure will handle wallet creation, wallet management, and transaction signing through software. Developers will be able to build around XRP, Ripple’s dollar-backed RLUSD stablecoin and other assets available on the ledger.

“With Privy, developers will be able to create and manage XRPL wallets programmatically, sign transactions, and build experiences using XRP, RLUSD, and other digital assets on XRPL,” the company said.

Within consumer apps, the provider said fintech companies could offer embedded wallets for stablecoin payments without making customers manage cryptographic keys themselves. Privy’s proposed setup places the wallet functions inside the service a customer already uses, while giving the developer tools to manage the underlying blockchain transactions.

Alongside consumer wallets, Privy identified server-side wallets as another part of the integration. According to its announcement, businesses could use those wallets to support AI agents that transact through payment systems such as x402.

Commenting on the agreement, Markus Infanger, senior vice president of RippleX at Ripple, said Privy’s wallet infrastructure and XRPL’s settlement capabilities would give developers a foundation for building financial products that can scale. He cited the ledger’s fast settlement, low transaction costs and native support for digital-asset transactions.

Ripple reports 13 million AI agent payments on XRPL

In its confirmation of the partnership, Ripple said AI agents had processed 13 million payments on the ledger and accounted for roughly a quarter of network activity.

“To date, it has processed 13M agent payments, which now account for roughly 25% of network activity,” Ripple said.

For its earlier work on automated payments, Ripple joined the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member on July 14. The company said its XRPL tools supported AI-powered applications settling transactions in XRP and RLUSD.

At the foundation’s launch, the Linux Foundation said it would oversee x402 under an open governance structure after Coinbase contributed the protocol. According to the foundation, developers, financial companies and cloud providers could participate in deciding how the payment standard develops.

Ripple’s July announcement also identified Stripe, Coinbase, Circle, Google, Visa and Mastercard among the Premier Members. As covered at the time, Ripple had released its XRPL AI Starter Kit in June to help developers integrate AI applications with the ledger.

According to Ripple, that toolkit provided support for software agents to send and receive payments using XRP and RLUSD. Ripple-backed t54.ai also introduced an XRPL AI Hub with support from Ripple developers and the XRPL Foundation, offering resources for developers working on such applications.

Stripe acquired Privy after buying stablecoin provider Bridge

As crypto.news previously reported in June 2025, Stripe agreed to acquire Privy following its $1.1 billion purchase of stablecoin infrastructure provider Bridge. Bloomberg’s reporting at the time said the companies had not disclosed the financial terms of the Privy transaction.

Founded in 2021, Privy supplied tools for companies to integrate crypto wallets into their own platforms. Its customers then included NFT marketplace OpenSea, loyalty platform Blackbird and employment company Toku, according to the acquisition report.

Under the arrangement announced at the time, Stripe said Privy would continue operating independently, as Bridge did. Privy CEO Henri Stern described the problem his company was addressing as developers having to send customers outside their applications to set up wallets.

RLUSD gains custody support under separate institutional plans

On Oct. 12, Standard Chartered launched institutional RLUSD custody on the XRP Ledger through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch. According to the bank, eligible institutional clients can hold the stablecoin through that operation, which is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority.

Separately, the bank said it was working with Ripple and LMAX Group on a collateral arrangement that would let institutions use eligible RLUSD holdings for trading while the tokens remained in custody. Standard Chartered said implementation still depended on testing, final documentation, internal approvals and applicable regulatory requirements.

Earlier, a Sep. 26 report recorded RLUSD’s supply near $2.5 billion, citing CoinMarketCap data. DefiLlama figures in that report placed stablecoins on XRPL at about $1.19 billion, including roughly $1.10 billion in RLUSD.

For U.S. holders, Ripple’s disclosures identify Standard Custody & Trust Company as RLUSD’s issuer under New York State Department of Financial Services supervision. Ripple says reserves are held in segregated accounts and publishes monthly third-party attestations covering circulating tokens and reserve assets.

Under Ripple’s terms, direct purchases and redemptions require customers to enter into the applicable customer agreement. The terms also state that RLUSD does not carry Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation insurance or Securities Investor Protection Corporation protection.
