Pi Network price: Can PI break $0.10 before Protocol 28?

Pi Network has moved directly into Protocol 28 preparations after completing Protocol 27, while PI continues trading below the closely watched $0.10 level.

Summary
  • PI trades near $0.0893 as Protocol 28 testing begins ahead of the October Mainnet upgrade.
  • October 13 is the deadline for Pi node operators to install Protocol 28 software updates.
  • Protocol 28 reaches Mainnet on October 16 after the Testnet upgrade completed successfully this month.
  • PI remains below $0.10 resistance while RSI and Aroon readings show weak directional momentum overall.
  • CoinGecko values Pi Network near $1 billion, with approximately 11.24 billion PI tokens circulating currently.

Pi Network said on Sept. 26 that Protocol 27 had been successfully completed on Mainnet and Protocol 28 was already running on Testnet. Pi Network’s official announcement Node operators have until Oct. 13 to upgrade, three days before the planned Protocol 28 Mainnet activation on Oct. 16.

PI was trading near $0.0893 at the time of writing, according to CoinGecko market data. The token was down roughly 2% over 24 hours but remained around 2.3% higher over seven days. Its market capitalization stood near $1 billion, with approximately $6.4 million in 24-hour trading volume and 11.24 billion PI in circulating supply.

Can Pi Network price reclaim $0.10?

PI has remained below $0.10 despite recovering from September lows. CoinGecko shows a seven-day range between roughly $0.085 and $0.0945, leaving the token inside the consolidation area that has developed since July.

The daily chart still shows a weaker long-term structure after PI fell from above $0.20 earlier this year. Since July, price action has become flatter, with most trading taking place between approximately $0.08 and $0.10.

Momentum indicators remain mixed. The Relative Strength Index stands at 47.99, slightly below the neutral 50 level. The reading remains well above 30 and below 70, leaving PI outside commonly watched oversold and overbought conditions.

The Aroon Oscillator sits at -14.29. A reading modestly below zero shows bearish trend pressure remains stronger than bullish pressure, though the relatively small negative figure does not indicate strong downside momentum.

Price would first need to move through the recent $0.094 area before testing $0.10 again. The $0.10 region has capped several recovery attempts during September and remains the main nearby resistance on the daily chart.

As crypto.news reported on Sept. 24, PI had already fallen below $0.09 after an earlier rebound stalled near $0.093. At the time, the token remained below its 20-day, 50-day, 100-day and 200-day exponential moving averages.

A separate crypto.news price update found PI trading near $0.0882 on Sept. 23 after briefly reaching $0.0926. Its 50-day moving average stood around $0.0909, while the 100-day average was close to $0.0970.

Protocol 28 puts October 16 on Pi Network’s calendar

Pi Network’s next scheduled network event is no longer Protocol 27. Following its completion on Mainnet, Testnet has already advanced to Protocol 28.

The Core Team said Protocol 28 changes how the network handles delays involving transaction data. Developers will gain the ability to upgrade groups of smart contracts together, while another change is designed to let applications modify stored data more safely as they develop.

Every Mainnet node must move to version 28 before the rollout. Pi Network’s official Node page now carries a notice stating that protocol upgrades are in progress and instructing Mainnet node operators to update.

The Oct. 13 node deadline comes before the scheduled Oct. 16 Mainnet upgrade. Pi Network has not announced another protocol version beyond Protocol 28.

Protocol 27 had previously been described as the final planned upgrade in the existing sequence. As crypto.news previously reported, its Mainnet rollout was originally targeted for Sept. 15 after Protocol 26 was completed in August.

Pi Network did not confirm completion on that original target date. The Core Team later confirmed Protocol 27 had gone live before announcing Protocol 28 testing.

Earlier crypto.news coverage of Protocol 27 linked the upgrade to more flexible smart-contract authentication and infrastructure intended to support applications interacting with the network.

PI price has struggled to hold recent rebounds

September trading shows repeated attempts by PI to recover above $0.09 without sustaining a move through $0.10.

CoinGecko historical data show PI closing near $0.0983 on Sept. 14 before falling to around $0.0812 by Sept. 17. Price subsequently recovered, reaching an intraday high around $0.0945 during the following week.

The token then lost part of those gains. Its current 24-hour range stands between roughly $0.0888 and $0.0920, according to CoinGecko. PI remains approximately 97% below its recorded all-time high of $2.99.

Trading activity remains relatively light compared with the token’s market value. CoinGecko reports approximately $6.4 million in daily volume against a market capitalization slightly above $1 billion.

Gate, OKX, CoinW and several other centralized exchanges account for much of the listed PI trading volume. CoinGecko currently shows OKX’s PI/USDT pair handling more than $2 million in 24-hour volume, while Gate’s PI/USDT pair accounts for more than $1.2 million.

Pi Network continues KYC and Mainnet migration work

Technical work has continued outside the protocol upgrade sequence. Pi Network published KYC and Mainnet migration changes in September covering users whose applications had become stuck during verification.

As crypto.news reported, more than 417,000 users were cleared to resume KYC after Pi reviewed accounts previously flagged as possible duplicates. Another group of roughly 497,000 Fast-Track wallets had faced problems claiming migrated PI because their wallets lacked gas funds.

Pi Network said its September KYC updates addressed specific application cases while changing parts of the verification process for eligible users. Its official blog lists the KYC and migration update among the project’s September technical releases.

The project has been releasing protocol revisions throughout 2026. Protocol 26 preceded Protocol 27, while earlier versions included Protocols 25, 22 and several software releases following the beginning of the year’s upgrade sequence.

Protocol 27 introduced more flexible smart-contract authentication, according to the Core Team’s August announcement. Pi Network had initially set Sept. 15 as its Mainnet target before confirming completion later in the month.

For Protocol 28, the official schedule gives node operators until Oct. 13 to install the required update. Pi Network has scheduled the Protocol 28 Mainnet network upgrade for Oct. 16, 2026.
