Gate lets users spend crypto with Visa in 40+ markets

Gate has partnered with Visa to roll out a crypto-linked payment card across more than 40 countries and territories, with digital assets automatically converted into fiat when users spend.

Summary
  • Gate plans to launch its Visa-linked crypto card across more than 40 countries and territories.
  • Crypto held in Gate accounts will convert automatically into fiat currency when users make purchases.
  • Gate says users can apply for and manage the new card directly through its app.
  • Visa supports more than 160 stablecoin-linked card programs, with payment volume rising nearly 200% yearly.
  • Gate Money combines digital assets, bank accounts, stocks, gold and payments within one unified application.

Gate said on Oct. 8 that the card will connect balances held in Gate accounts with Visa’s payment network, allowing eligible users to pay online or in stores wherever their card is accepted. The exchange said users will be able to apply for and manage the product through the Gate app.

The announcement does not provide one complete public list of the 40-plus supported markets. Gate said country availability, eligibility requirements, supported assets and other service conditions depend on the relevant product page and local restrictions.

Gate card turns crypto into fiat when users pay

When a user makes a purchase, Gate said the relevant digital assets will be converted automatically into fiat currency at the point of sale. The merchant therefore receives payment through the normal card system instead of accepting cryptocurrency directly.

Visa describes the same process for crypto-linked cards across its network. Its research says customers can fund purchases from crypto or stablecoin balances while the conversion into local fiat takes place at checkout. Merchants receive standard Visa payments without having to handle the digital asset themselves.

Gate’s current card page lists USDT, BTC, ETH and GT as supported assets under its Instant Spend Mode. Its prepaid mode supports a larger selection, though Gate says available assets depend on the card type, issuer and user’s region. The Oct. 8 announcement does not state that every new Visa card in the 40-plus market rollout will support the same asset list.

Current Gate Card documentation says applicants must complete Level 2 identity verification. Some card types require recent proof of address, while approval depends on residence, verification status, the issuing institution and compliance checks.

Gate founder and CEO Dr. Han described the partnership as a way to make digital-asset payments “more intuitive and better aligned with everyday needs.” His statement describes Gate’s intended use for the product, while actual card availability still depends on individual market and eligibility rules.

Gate plans the Visa card for more than 40 markets

Gate said the new Visa-linked service is expected to reach more than 40 countries and territories. Visa’s network currently covers more than 175 million merchant acceptance locations in over 200 countries and territories, according to Visa’s own published figures.

The card rollout does not mean Gate is introducing its first payment card. Gate had card products available in several regions earlier in 2026, including virtual and physical cards. Its existing global documentation says Gate Card can support online purchases, contactless payments and, for some physical cards, ATM withdrawals. Apple Pay and Google Pay are available for certain products.

Gate entered the U.S. card market separately in July. Gate US said it launched a Visa card with Visa, Stripe and Bridge on July 10, allowing eligible U.S. customers to spend supported stablecoins such as USDC. Lead Bank issues that U.S. prepaid debit card, while Bridge manages the card program.

The Oct. 8 announcement concerns Gate’s planned international expansion across more than 40 markets and comes under its newly launched Gate Money service. Specific issuers and card structures can therefore differ by country.

Gate Money puts the card inside the main Gate app

Gate announced Gate Money one day before the Visa card partnership, during founder Dr. Han’s Oct. 7 appearance at TOKEN2049. The service brings cryptocurrencies, fiat currencies, stocks, ETFs, gold, banking services and payments into the Gate app. Users can activate Gate Money after updating the app to version 8.39.0.

As crypto.news previously reported in its coverage of the Gate Money launch, the platform is designed to combine asset management and payments within one account. Gate said eligible users can hold different fiat currencies, make bank transfers, deposit crypto and move funds between their exchange and payment accounts.

Eligible users can apply for an electronic bank account in their own name directly through Gate Money. Gate says the service can link the bank account to digital assets and traditional investments inside the app, allowing users to receive funds, convert currencies and make payments without opening a separate Gate product for each task.

Gate’s Oct. 7 product announcement says cards can be used for online and offline spending, while payment options in some countries include ATM withdrawals and local QR-code payments. Exact functions vary by location.

Visa crypto cards are already growing quickly

Gate is joining a Visa card market that has expanded quickly during 2026. Visa said on Sept. 8 that more than 160 stablecoin-linked card programs were operating globally during its fiscal second quarter. Payment volume across those programs had risen nearly 200% year over year.

As crypto.news reported in its coverage of Visa’s 160 stablecoin-card programs, the company separately reported that its stablecoin settlement volume had passed a $20 billion annualized run rate. That figure describes the pace of settlement activity and does not mean Visa had already settled $20 billion during the year.

More recent Visa data published Oct. 1 showed business and commercial cards accounted for roughly 17% of stablecoin-linked card volume during fiscal 2026 year-to-date. Visa said its stablecoin card network continued to cover more than 160 consumer, business and commercial programs.

Crypto.news recently covered the same figures in its report on Visa stablecoin-card payments rising nearly 200%. Visa did not disclose the total dollar amount of purchases behind that percentage increase.

Visa has been expanding similar card partnerships elsewhere. Its March agreement with Stripe-owned Bridge set out plans to take Bridge-powered stablecoin Visa cards from 18 countries to more than 100 countries across Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East by the end of 2026.

For Gate’s rollout, the company has not announced a final date when all 40-plus markets will be live. Its announcement directs users to the card product page to check local eligibility, supported assets and service availability.

Gate Money has a separate expansion schedule. Gate said its banking services are planned for more markets including Europe, Australia and Dubai, while its account infrastructure is expected to support receiving payments in more than 60 local currencies.
